Brief bios for each person are below

Charles Jarvie

Mr. Jarvie joined Nava in October 2000 as CEO, having been Head of Business Development for the international division of Telecom New Zealand since November 1993. During that period, Telecom New Zealand began establishing its network footprint offshore in its key markets such as Australia, USA, England and Japan. In 1996 Mr. Jarvie took the founding role in the joint Telecom NZ, Cable & Wireless Optus and MCI WorldCom initiative to construct the project financed Southern Cross Cable Network crossing the Pacific joining Australia with North America. This project achieved RFS-1 in November 2000. From late 1999 he was an alternate Director of Southern Cross Cables Limited, a Bermudan- based holding company for the financing, construction and operation of the Southern Cross Cable Network. At this time, he became a full Director of Pacific Carriage Holdings (one of the asset holding companies of Southern Cross) and remained alternate Director for other affiliate companies associated with the project. He was also a Director of Telecom Cook Islands Limited - a Telecom New Zealand affiliate, which operates a full service telecommunications company in the Cook Islands including the remote outer islands of the Cook Group.

Previous to his international career he led the development and launch of Telecom, New Zealand’s updated Calling Card service in early 1990’s and worked with retail banking sector and retailers in the late 1980’s to support the introduction of EFT-POS in New Zealand. His introduction of an innovative new open network EFT-POS solution allowed a rapid take up of the service taking New Zealand to the present world lead in adoption of this retail payment option. He was also involved in the introduction of EDI services in New Zealand. Mr. Jarvie has a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) from Canterbury University, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Brett O’Riley

Mr. O’Riley is Director Sales & Marketing for Nava Networks and was co-founder of the project that resulted in Nava’s formation. Mr. O’Riley is an experienced international telecommunications marketer, having been involved with a number of major telecoms and IT initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years. He was Director, North American Market for Southern Cross Cables Limited until November 1999, being responsible for the relationship between the Southern Cross trans-Pacific cable system and its North American carrier and ISP customers. Mr. O’Riley was previously involved in the formative stages of Southern Cross while he was Managing Director of Telecom New Zealand’s Australian subsidiary based in Sydney from 1995 to 1997 after a career at Telecom NZ in New Zealand starting in 1989. He subsequently also held roles at Pacific Gateway Exchange and Avirnex Communications. Mr. O’Riley has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Victoria University, New Zealand. He is a regular speaker at telecommunications industry forums, particularly on the topics of convergence, regulation and the access to broadband capacity.

Brett Worrall

Mr. Worrall is Director Networks for Nava Networks and was co-founder of the project that resulted in Nava’s formation. Prior to this, Mr. Worrall operated his own submarine system consulting firm, winning assignments on several large cable system projects. Mr. Worrall was Director Contracts Global for Tyco Submarine Systems Ltd of New Jersey, USA from 1998 to 1999. From 1997 to 1998, he held the role of Asia Pacific Sales and Marketing Director and was responsible for the establishment of the regional office for TSSL in Singapore. Between February 1989 and December 1997, he held various roles within Alcatel from 1989 to 1997, the most recent being the Area Manager, Asia Pacific for Alcatel Submarine Networks based in Singapore from 1995 to 1997. During this time he led successful multidiscipline teams in the preparation of bids for the SEA-ME-WE-3 extension and China-US projects. He also worked on Jasuraus, CKC, TVH, Dalian-Yantai, Jasmin West Coast Festoon and the Bass Strait-1 projects in various commercial and project management capacities. His earlier roles with Alcatel included Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand, MIS Manager, and Senior Test Engineer (Optical and Electrical). Mr. Worrall has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Master of Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Mr. Worrall also holds a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration from Deaken University in Canberra, Australia.

John Humphrey

Mr. Humphrey is Director Project Development for Nava Networks and was the original founder of the project that resulted in Nava’s formation. Mr. Humphrey served as Chief Executive Officer before taking up his current position. For the six years prior to this, Mr. Humphrey was the Country Manager for Cable & Wireless Optus in New Zealand. During his time with Optus, he was primarily responsible for major account sales and carrier relations. Before this, he held senior management positions with Telecom New Zealand in the Business Strategy and Networks & Technology areas. In addition to his telecommunications experience, Mr. Humphrey has been involved in managerial and entrepreneurial roles within a wide range of industries, including finance, construction, mining, distribution and retail. Mr. Humphrey has worked in many different countries including New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, and South East Asia. Mr. Humphrey holds Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Mining Engineering degrees from Otago University, New Zealand, and a Master of Science in Production Management from the University of London, UK. He is a frequent speaker and chairperson at telecommunications conferences, particularly on Internet, broadband and satellite industry issues.

Francis Allan (Frank)

Mr. Allan joined Nava in late 2000 as Director Marine and Facilities after 12 years with Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) where he was most recently Manager, Marine Operations at the ASN manufacturing plant and operations base at Port Botany, Australia. He recently managed the 29,500 km installation of the Southern Cross Cable Network in the Pacific and prior to that, the 3,500 km Pan American cable system in the Caribbean. In these projects, he has managed the marine route survey, route and cable engineering, shore end landings, vessel transfers and loading, main lay, plough and remote operations vehicle burial, land cable installation and system earth installation works. Frank was with Cable & Wireless (Marine) as a Cable Engineer working on repair and installation vessels over a period of some six years and then at Alcatel he was Senior Representative on board various cable ships during installation (PacRimWest, Jasuraus, Pan American, Southern Cross Segment A) and repair work (PacRimEast, PacRimWest, TVH). He is well versed in cable manufacturing processes, having originally been recruited in Europe as part of the small technology transfer group that first brought fibre optic submarine cable manufacturing expertise to Australia. Initially responsible for all system assembly operations, he then moved on to become Manufacturing Manager with a staff of up to 320, acting as a ‘change agent’ during a period of ‘re-engineering’ of the companies philosophy towards management and quality control in the Port Botany facility. Mr. Allan has worked on all the undersea systems installed between the west coast of Australia and Asia over the past 17 years. These include; AIS as a cable engineer on board the C.S. Cable Venture; Jasuraus as Manufacturing Manager and then as a Senior Representative during the critical installation and ROV follow through the Sunda Strait; Sea-Me-We-3 as Manufacturing Manager at Port Botany. His experience in both the project execution and manufacturing QA aspects of submarine systems is a valuable asset for Nava.

Doug Nielsen

Doug Nielsen joined Nava in October of 2000 as Director Contract and Project Management. Mr. Nielsen is a Mechanical Engineer with a wide range of experience in product design and manufacture, as well as Plant Engineering and Maintenance of production facilities in the telecommunications industry with Alcatel Australia. More recently he has worked in the Submarine Cable industry, again with Alcatel but also with Harmsdorf Submarine Systems, and has extensive experience in the management of submarine cable contracts, at both the administrative as well as the practical level. His first association with the submarine cable industry came when he was appointed Alcatel Australia project manager for the construction and commissioning of the original Port Botany submarine cable factory that was constructed as part of the overall Tasman 2 project. Doug then transferred to Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) as Projects Manager and for almost 10 years, had commercial and project management responsibility for all aspects of the submarine cable projects delivered from the plant. In addition to Tasman 2 these included PacRim East and West, UNISUR in South America and Sea-Me-We-2, CKC, TVH and Jasuraus in Asia. Following completion of the Jasuraus contract, Doug formed his own company and contracted to Global Marine Services, (formally Harmsdorf Submarine Systems) in Singapore as Project and Contract Manager for the HSS, Sea-Me-We-3 shore end installation program in Pakistan, India, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. He then returned to Alcatel with a contract to run the Southern Cross project, linking Australia, New Zealand and the USA. In all these projects he has planned and project managed the building and commissioning of outside plant, cable station and backhaul, marine, terrestrial transmission systems as well as their associated Network Management Systems. Doug is recognised as one of the most experienced project and contract managers in the industry, and Nava is delighted to have him on its team.

David Lawrence

Mr. Lawrence is Regional Director (Australia) for Nava Networks. He has been involved with the business since mid-2000 taking a key role in the sales process. Prior to joining Nava, Mr. Lawrence held a number of executive management positions within the international telecommunications industry. Most of his 40 year career has been spent with Cable and Wireless plc, living and working in countries all over the world, including 7 years in Asia and having the role of Director, International at Cable and Wireless Optus for 5 years in Australia and. Mr. Lawrence has also held positions with Pacific Gateway Exchange (Managing Director Australia), Hong Kong Telecom and Eastern Telecommunications. Over the duration of Mr. Lawrence’s career, he has seen the transition from submarine cable and radio telegraphy through telex, voice and packet switching to high speed data communications on fibre optic systems, while at the same time moving from PTT monopolies to highly competitive markets. Mr. Lawrence holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Porthcurno Engineering College in the UK.

James Schweigert

Mr. Schweigert has over 11 years direct experience in the installation and maintenance of submarine telecommunication systems and over 25 years of management and executive experience, mostly in the marine field. Mr. Schweigert was Senior Vice President of General Offshore Corporation and later Cable & Wireless Global Marine from 1990 until 1999 and was in charge of worldwide shallow water (<50m) cable installation and maintenance. He was responsible for building General Offshore into the largest company in its market niche in the world and ran companies in the UK, Germany, US, Singapore and Malaysia. General Offshore performed many special protection installations involving cable burial up to 10m beneath the sea floor and 4m rock cutting. Among the telecommunication systems with which he was involved are Sea-Me-We 3, FLAG, AC-1, APCN, Jasaurus, TVH, Thailand Domestic, Brazil Domestic, Indonesia Domestic, ITUR, Pan American and many others. Mr. Schweigert has a BS in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology, an MS in Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography of the University of California, San Diego, and an MBA in finance from San Diego State University.

Raelene Castle

Ms. Castle joined Nava Networks as Marketing Manager after nine years at Fuji Xerox New Zealand Ltd, where she held senior management roles in sales and marketing strategy, communications and business development. She was active in initiating improvements in communications processes and managing change. Her extensive knowledge of the technology sector gives her good insights into how the benefits of broadband Internet can be practically applied in a workplace or domestic environment. In addition her communications skills will ensure Nava can effectively reach out to its customer base in increasingly complex markets. Ms. Castle also has extensive Event Management and Sponsorship experience with involvement in the sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup 1995 & 1999, Olympics & NZOCGA 1992, 1996 & 2000. She most recently project managed the Fuji Xerox sponsorship of the America’s Cup 2000 whilst being a member of the Marketing Committee for the America’s Cup Event.

Sharon Cheo

Ms. Cheo joined Nava Networks as Business Manager after more than 15 years of experience in the submarine cable installation industry. This experience includes several years as a Director of Harmstorf Submarine Systems who carried out all the undersea cable shore end installations in Singapore. Ms. Cheo has acted as Office Manager and Administration Manager of Harmstorf Submarine Systems and of Global Marine in Singapore. Her duties included vendor negotiations, hiring of local employees, obtaining employment passes for expatriate employees, management of Accounts Payable and Payroll, insurance management, human resources management, travel arrangements and supervision of clerical staff. Ms. Cheo also supported marine operations in vessel mobilization, vessel permitting, hiring of crew and shipyard negotiations. She is fluent in English and three Chinese dialects: Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien.

Amoso Tolo

Amosa Tolo joins Nava after 25 years in the telecommunications industry as Facilities Manager. His most recent projects included the Southern Cross Cable undersea cable network and the fiber optic metropolitan area network for United Networks in New Zealand. Mr. Tolo was the Infrastructure Manager for the Southern Cross Cable Network in charge of managing the completion of its cable landing stations and terrestrial cable route build. At United Networks, he consulted on the design, development and implementation of the network that utilized spare gas pipes for the duct route. With 20 years experience with Telecom New Zealand, Mr. Tolo is highly experienced in project management, process development, fiber optic outside plant networks and transmission systems, providing Nava with a broad base of experience.

Hon Neville K Wran AC QC (Hon) LLD FRSA

Mr. Wran is the Chairman of Nava Networks Pty Ltd, Australia. Mr. Wran was the Premier of New South Wales from May 1976 until his resignation in July 1986, during which time he also held various other portfolios including Treasurer and Mineral Resources. He was the National President of the Australian Labour Party from 1980 until his resignation in July 1986. From 1986 until 1991 he was chairman of CSIRO. Mr. Wran represented Australia as its Member on the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) of APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) from 1993 to 1995. Mr. Wran is Chairman of Powerlan Limited, and a director of Cabcharge Australia Limited, and a number of other companies. He is also a governor of the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce and maintains a broad range of community interests. Mr. Wran was educated at Fort Street Boys’ High School, Sydney, and graduated from the University of Sydney Law School in 1948. He was admitted to the Bar in 1957, appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1968 and received his Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Sydney in May 1995.
